CASE STUDY: Grow

Mobile Application

Challenge:

Create a mobile application where users can search or scan foods to determine the level at which they are a “processed” food or contain processed foods. This allows users to make smart buying decisions when comparing products or searching for clean, whole ingredients.

Solution:

Through this application users can search ingredients or products or scan the barcode of a product. Search results will show a number, which is that products processed rating, on a scale of 1-10. Numbers are color coded to help the visual association of that score.

When searching or scanning products users will see the overall rating of the product as well as a list of that products individual ingredients and their corresponding rating. Individual ingredients can be tapped and will open to their unique ingredient page for additional browsing.

When searching ingredients users will be given two additional browsing options. They will see other ingredients that fall within the same category and their corresponding processed ratings as well as be able see different brands that sell that product.

On any product or ingredient page users can “like” the product by tapping the heart icon in the upper right. This then saves that product or ingredient on the “My Favs” page (found in the bottom menu). You can also find out if that product is approved by popular diets by clicking the silverware icon in the top right. When this is tapped a right fly-out menu appears which lists many popular diets and shows a green check mark if this item is approved on that diet.

On the Homepage of Grow users can browse popular stories or popular diets. Popular diets pages allow users to tab between approved ingredients or products.
